ramblings on an off day...

okie.. so today is my off day.. now, no need to get envious.. i earned it from working my ass off during last month's exercise where sometimes we worked till the wee hours of the morning.. can't complain lah.. my team had it better than some of the other projects..

so wat the hell am i doing home blogging on an off day? i should be out doing stuff man! did make plans to go to the gym but unfortunately i'm feeling rather sick.. it's one of em inbetween stages as in you know you're not entirely well, but it ain't serious enuff to go the doc's kind of thing. crap.. of all the bloody time.. just spent the last hour trying to get a nice afternoon nap to no success.. dammit..

come to think of it, it has been a while since i was sick.. think my last MC was last year for my lasik or something? so i guess i'm due for a visit to the doc's.. it has to happen at least once every few months.. i'm the sort who doesn't get sick easily, but when i do, it takes damn long to really fall sick and damn long to recover. crap..

not that it helps that i'm not in the best of physical condition.. well, considering i've been laying off working out during the exerise period and right after that there's all the holidaying and course.. no time to keep up the exercise regime lah.. did try to start it again tho: swam on thurs, gym on fri and swam on sat again.. haha.. probably overdid it, which explains why i'm home feeling sick now..

speaking of holidays, i am so dreaming of going to a nice beach resort somewhere and just lie on the beach chair beside the waves and sleep.. like back in bintan last year.. oh, that was so good... i know, i know.. you must be going "but you just came back from taiwan!".. for me, there are 2 types of vacations: one is the getaway type which is like bintan.. no need to plan where to go and wat to do.. just go there and relax and chill out.. the other type of vacation is the sight-seeing and shopping type.. that type have to plan and stress over where to go and how to get there.. not that i didn't enjoy taiwan.. i just feel like getting away during july or august and just disconnect from the world for a few days.. considering there's another huge exercise coming in october.. i need to getaway before i go crazy.. hm.. beach resort.. ahh... anyone interested? hehe..

part time courses just sucks donkey balls man... i dunno how come ppl can take some part time degree or masters course that can go for a year and half man.. i 10 nights tak boleh tahan liao.. 5 nights down, 5 more to go.. gotta hang in there.. gr...

so anyway, was at this timber place on saturday to celebrate barry's birthday.. and in the words of stephen colbert: this brings us to tonite's word: C-R-A-P. *cue mad applause*

they had some forum chit chat session thingy discussing the state of local music or something.. and it just irritates me because they keep yapping on and on about how we should support local music.. and i say, wat's there to support? c'mon.. honestly? when was the last time i heard something that can make it in the mainstream market? in fact, when was the first?

now i'm no music expert, i can't differentiate between the different genres of rock music out there.. to me, there's oni 2 categories: something that sounds good and there's a nice hook where it will stay entrenched in my head that plays on and on and on, and there's the other category is which is C-R-A-P. which is exactly what the local bands are producing..

make something nice and catchy lah.. something which the average Jane and Joe can enjoy.. yea, yea.. you write your own stuff, it comes from your heart, it's who you are and if no one appreciates it, it's their own problem rite? hey guess wat? maybe it is your problem: you can't write something that the masses can enjoy. and as long as you can't do that, you're stuck begging singaporeans to support local music.

to further support my point, look at the chinese music scene. there are some people that are doing pretty well, aren't there? and wat do they produce? now look at the contrasting english scene.. why the huge difference? comprehende?

now i might be a little too harsh here, but take it as some tough love i'm dishing out. and a piece of advice? next time you're out doing a gig? interperse some of your own music with some covers of popular songs. that way, even if your own music sucks donkey balls, the audience don't have to suffer thru 30 minutes of C-R-A-P. and that's the word.

woo.. that was a long diatribe.. told ya that this post is gonne be full of ramblings.. haha.. until next time..

oh, and i recently came across this great series called Robot Chicken.. check out their Star Wars Special episode if u can man.. funniest sh*t i've ever seen in a while..

taiwan!

wow.. it's been super long since i last posted anything.. guess i really wasn't in the mood with the big exercise and all..

anyway, i'm just back from a trip from Taiwan with Barry and Jason Tay! the trip was pretty nice - the night view from the Kaohsiung and Taipei skyscrapers were fantastic! but the weather was a real b***ch tho - it was like raining non-stop for days..

i'd love to write more, but i'm too lazy.. haha.. so here's a little photo slide show from my Webshots album.. enjoy!

**edit: i think the flash slide show only shows 50 photos.. i got way more photos at the main album page in here
