passion

alrite, so the GE's upon us and it's gonna be my first time voting.

i can't help but admire the passion of these people helping the political parties.

the kindergarten near my house seems to be the HQ for this district. on Nomination Day, car after car starts pulling into the carpark behind my block and deposits people dressed all in white. when i left for work in the morning, i saw a huge crowd of white - all intending to go with the MP to the nomination grounds. i haven't seen so many white shirts since assembly in secondary school.

and when i come back from work at night, i come out of the mrt station only to be greeted by signboard after signboard on lamp posts promoting the candidates for my area. wait a minute, i don't remember those being there in the morning when i left, that means they must have been placed there during the day after nominations had close at noon. and damn, there were lots of them.

i later heard from mom that she saw people running in and out of the party HQ after nominations had close to gather the publicity material so that they can quickly put up the stuff at the prime locations. amazing.. and these are full grown adults, mind you.

i never knew there were people who are so passionate about politics. me? well, some of my colleagues commented that i was lucky that i get to vote. but i just tell them, i rather not vote at all, i prefer to have some peace and quiet when i'm at home than to have some truck driving by every hour blaring out their party message on loudspeakers.

and besides, the current team has really done a great job with the GRC. i got a new market, the estate's been nicely upgraded, covered walkways, mrt station, good bus links to where i need to go, a nice suburban mall nearby, an adventure park coming up soon, etc.. why do i want to vote for someone who probably won't have the resources to do all these?

not to mention i haven't even seen their shadows, much less any of them in person. plus the fact that they screwed up their papers the last election doesn't inspire much confidence. oh, and don't forget one of them who went to the press making a big woo-hah, complaining about not getting his certificate and oops! it turns out he didn't submit the papers in the first place! and the whiny little biach doesn't even the balls to come out and admit his mistake. highly qualified, yes. but hey, dun forget - even i have a degree from a world-class university, ok? lol.

tick tock

so i got a phone call today from someone i haven't heard from in oh.. 14 years? since we last saw each other in primary 6. not that i recognise the voice, but i can still remember the name from way back when.

alrite, so it seems another of my classmate is getting married. combine that with the 20 year old photo i just found a few years ago, is someone upstairs trying to tell me something? haha.

but on the same day i hear this piece of good news, i hear the sad news that another friend has just broken up with his girlfriend. probably an all too familiar story: boy meets girl, they become a couple. boy starts treating the girl like she's the most important thing in his life, he puts his life on hold to accomodate her schedule, he's nice to her because he wants to be with her more often and he wants to make her happy. but the girl starts losing interest in the guy who just gives in all the time to her and takes him for granted, meanwhile she continues with other activities with the other people in her life. boy is hurt because he has put his life on hold for her and yet she couldn't even spend some time with him. boy can't take it anymore and they break up.

like i said: all too familiar. the sad part of this whole thing is that the guy tries to be nice and accomodates her because he genuninely likes her. how ironic.

chit chat

well, ok.. so i got a little email from the company yesterday saying that i have been invited to a little chit chat session with the company president sometime next month. no, not the ah beng who is the company group president, this guy is kinda one rung below him.

but the guy is still power, he's responsible for an entire gospel that all the company staff religously qoute. really, i swear. i remember i was at this training session on some common application platform thing that the company was using and the person kept on yakking on and on about "oh, our president said this." and "according to our president, we should do that." i was half-expecting her to start quoting chapter and verse numbers, lol.

so they were just randomly selecting people to take part in this chit chat session and guess i was lucky enough to be selected. so the thing now is.. what the heck do i say? the whole purpose of this chit chat session must surely be to gather feedback from the staff and quite frankly, i can sum it all up in 1 - no, make it 2 - words : "ok lor". that oughtta impress the guy!

but it's ok, i still have a month to think up something. i guess more urgent is think up something to say to the VP during lunch on monday. oh yes, the VP is meeting all of us in batches for lunch meeting sessions. wonder wat the hell is up with these dialogue sessions all of a sudden? hm.

down memory lane

now who's this handsome little devil??

wahaha. dad was going through some of his old documents and he found this old photo. must have been taken for my report book when i was in Primary 1. doing a quick count..

in another month, it's gonna be a full year since i started on this job.

2 years since i adopted the coolest 'do in town.

3 years ago, i would have been just about to start school in NUS.

graduated from poly 6 years ago.

10 years when i suprisingly got an A1 for my mid year Chinese 'O' levels and hasn't written a complete sentence in Chinese since then.

plus 4 years of secondary and 6 years of primary school...

which brings us back a grand total of 20 years when this photo was taken. 20 years?! holy crap..
